Sultan Maccido Institute appointed as research partner to the Administration of Criminal Justice Monitoring Committee

For years, some of the biggest issues in social reform in Nigeria have been issues of criminal justice. Needless incarceration, slow criminal trials and general miscarriage of justice. This led to a comprehensive review of the principal legislations affecting criminal justice in Nigeria and consequently the Administration of Criminal Justice Act was enacted in 2015.

The Act which repealed the Criminal and Penal codes operating in Southern and Northern Nigeria, respectivey, introduced alot of innovations in the administration of criminal justice in Nigeria, as well as an implementation committee to ensure that the goals of the Act were achieved.

In furtherance of its mandate to engage with all agencies, bodies and organisations it deems essential to fulfillment of its role under the Act, the Committee headed by the Chief Judge of the FCT appointed Sultan Maccido Institute as its research partners. The partnership is to utilise research principles on an ongoing basis to support the activities of the Committee, and perform a support role to the functions of the Committee.

The Institute has also been appointed as a probation monitoring institute and its principal officers are also appointed as Probation monitoring officers, a first in Nigeria.

We are honoured to be part of this extremley important national assignment and will be posting updates on our blog.
